A Hindu priest has died after being hit by a bus in Uttar and an accused has been arrested in connection with his killing.
Amita Bhatt, 53, who had been on a visit to his family’s house in the town of Amethi, was hit by the bus on Monday night, according to police.
His wife and five-year-old daughter were also on the bus.
“We were just passing through the village and Amita had been visiting his family and was visiting a nearby shrine,” said Sushil Sharma, a local resident.
“The bus hit him and then hit the house.
He fell down and died on the spot.
The police are investigating the case.
There were several witnesses,” he added.
“My family is in shock.
The funeral is tomorrow,” said another resident, who did not wish to be named.
Police have not said whether the priest and his family were on the road when the incident occurred.
The incident came a day after two men were shot dead by unidentified gunmen in the eastern state of Haryana after allegedly stabbing them.
A day earlier, two people were shot and killed by unidentified attackers in the southern state of Uttar Pradesh after allegedly attacking them with stones.
Police have not yet made any arrests in the incidents, but have started an inquiry.
The incident comes days after a mob lynched a man for allegedly raping a woman in the city of Kochi.
